Podiatry

Foot health treaments that will solve all of your podiatric problems

Podiatric Treatments

As a podiatric practice, we specialise in the diagnosis, care and treatment of “the lower extremities” of the body, otherwise known as the lower leg, ankle and feet. Alongside typical podiatric treatments such as relief from corns, the removal of ingrown toenails, nail surgery, laser treatment and diabetic foot care, we offer complementary foot care treatments, including chiropody nail clipping.

Good foot care promotes increased mobility, independence and better quality of life for our patients. Most of our treatments are available in one of our clinics, or may be carried out by our mobile clinicians in your own home.

  • Chiropody Nail Trimming

This is particularly important for patients who may have difficulty reaching their own feet for personal foot-care, including those people who are elderly or disabled. Our treatment may include a warm footbath to relax and soften the foot, followed by an expert toe nail cut. During your first appointment, our clinician will conduct a full health care assessment of your feet if requested.

  • Corns & Callaces

Corns are generally a development of your skins response to friction pressure. Corns and calluses will not go away by themselves and need effective treatment to remove the build up of hardened tissue and to locate the source of the friction pressure. Our treatment will typically include enucleating corns, and debridement of callus using non-invasive techniques.

  • Ingrown Toenail

Ingrown toenails are a common and painful condition called onychocryptosis, where the nail grows into the toe itself. An ingrown toenail may lead to infection. Depending on the severity of the problem, our clinicians offer a number of different treatments to cure any infection and to encourage the nail to grow out over the top of the toe tissue rather than in to it. We can use a conservative measure that includes trimming down the nail, or we offer nail surgery.

  • Cracked Heels

Uncomfortable and unsightly, cracked heels, known as fissures, are caused by a large number of factors including medical ailments and excess weight. They may also be an indicator of more serious health conditions such as diabetes, leading to serious infections. The healing of cracked heels can often require a small number of ongoing treatments, where the dried out and cracked skin is softened, moisturised, and gently removed, known as debriding.

  • Fungal Nail Treatment

Known as onychomycosis, this is a fairly common complaint, usually affecting the toe nails, although sometimes found in finger nails as well. Although not serious, left untreatment the fungal infection is likely to most spread and result in brittle nails that are prone to cracking, snapping and breaking. This is turn may cause the toe to become painful and infected. Fungal nail infections usually take a long time to treat, and are usually cured when new and healthy nails begin to grow. • Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the modern day with 20% of diabetics over the age of 60 leading on to peripheral arterial disease. Research has proven that maintaining regular neurovascular checks will give the patient peace of mind with the status of their foot health. Part of our foot care regime is to offer sensitivity testing, which measures different nerve pathways, alongside doppler testing, where we listen to a patient’s pulse.

  • Verruca Treatment

Verrucas are a pain! Literally! They are difficult to treat, persistent, and unsightly. Some can persevere for years, growing deeper and impacting more and more on daily activities. Around 10% of the population have a verruca. Most people have tried some form of treatment… but it hasn’t worked. The good news? Swift is a scientifically proven solution that attacks the verruca virus at its heart.

WHAT IS SWIFT®? Swift is a new technology, developed in the UK, which has been licensed for the general treatment of skin lesions in Podiatry and Dermatology. Swift uses microwave energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin to treat the affected.

  • Neurovascular Sensory Testing

Screening of the diabetic foot is essential. We perform some regular testing with 10g of pressure using a monofilament also testing the pulses on the feet. We can also do further examinations to the feet if need to be. Our patients are seen on a regular basis and given advice how to look after their feet between visits.

  • Nail Surgery

Quite often many of our patients need further treatment due to complications of the toe nail. As a result of this, we offer a total nail avulsion or a partial avulsion . This will help you gain a better quality of everyday life, and will help you avoid ingrown toenails or further infection. We have HCPC registered podiatrists to conduct the local surgery.

  • Laser Therapy

In recent years, podiatrists have begun using laser therapy to treat Archilles tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain. The precision of modern laser therapy offers a non-invasive alternative to surgery that may relieve pain and promote healing.
