Causes
Athlete’s Foot, or tinea pedis, is a type of fungal infection that is typically found on the skin between the toes of the foot, although it is also found on the sole and heel. This infection is very contagious, and thrives in warm, damp conditions. Hot sweaty feet, enclosed in trainers or other footwear, create the perfect conditions for althete’s foot to thrive.
It can cause itchy and flaky skin. It darkens the pigment of the skin, and can be difficult to spot in the early stages for people with brown or black skin. Sometimes athlete’s foot causes the skin to break and bleed.
If left untreated, athlete’s foot can spread to other parts of the body, including the hands and groin area. It can also increases the body’s susceptibility to other bacterial infections.
